My Time at The Hatch School’s 9th Grade Retreat
By: Flan Howard-Kuzma

I had a lot of fun at the YMCA Camp Colman retreat with the 9th grade at The Hatch School. My favorite activity was canoeing. It was fun to learn how to steer with my classmates in my canoe, and we pointed interesting animals out to each other. We saw some large crabs that we got to learn about, and even saw an octopus!

We also did exciting team-building activities, archery, and swung on a giant swing! In archery, I kept aiming for the cards and finally got one in the last five minutes, as well as a balloon! Through this, I learned that perseverance pays off. I enjoyed cheering others on and helping them hold the bow correctly. With the giant swing, we got to help each other by holding the ladder for them to climb on, and pull a rope that pulled them up to however high they wanted to go on the swing. We cheered each other on, got closer to each other, and made some jokes between ourselves. I even went on the swing, which is not something I’d normally do, and I had a lot of fun!
